The Gathering Storm

I just finished Robert Jordan's (er, Brandon Sanderson's) newest Wheel of Time book, The Gathering Storm. It was fantastic. I believe that is an accurate description even though the book falls under the category of fantasy itself. Now I do feel a little guilty, because it is by far the best WoT book out of the last, well, several, and it wasn't even written by Jordan himself (deceased, rare blood disease and all that).

Brandon Sanderson is doing a fantastic job of tying up loose ends and making progress in what has been a notoriously wordy and elongated series. Don't get me wrong, I love the WoT books. Jordan himself may have been planning to write A Memory of Light in much the same way. I'll never know. Now the end of the Wheel of Time has been split into three books, with Sanderson penning them all out of notes and outlines left by the late author. The most notable thing so far, is that the is real progress made towards the story ending, which has not really been in sight until now.

Well, I'm not going to write a whole lot more ranting about how much I loved the newest WoT book, but if you have stopped reading the series at any point, now is the time to catch up. The Gathering Storm was action packed and made me interested in certain characters I had despised from jump.

You know, I've never really done a book review. It was kind of fun. I might write one next week about David Farlands newest book. Which I read. And enjoyed. But not as much as The Gathering Storm.

Also, don't skip the foreword.

Well, since I blogged last, I've had a baby! Technically, my wife had the baby, but I get to claim it. As soon as I can find the cord to the damn camera, I'm going to post some pics of him. His name is Colin James Wall, and he's friggin' cute.

I have done very little in a creative sense, other than making a new human being that is. I'm not really suffering from writer's block, I'm suffering from lack of time to even try. Also, the newest David Farland and Robert Jordan books just hit the shelves, so I've been hitting those hard. As soon as I'm done, hopefully I'll get right back to the grind.

Oh, and thanks to Snapfish (I hope the transfer rate charges from my phone don't eat me alive) I has a picture to post!

I updated Fuzznuts this week! DJ woke up early for once and we did some creatin'. It's still part of an ongoing story, and funny or not, I guess we are sticking with it.

Also, I finished another chapter in my fantasy novel. Woo!

Movin' Slow

Well, it's halfway through July. I'm still pretty lazy. I hit 25k words on my fantasy project yesterday, so that's something. I still haven't drawn a comic strip in quite some time, even though DJ and I worked out some new concepts. I think it's really because I'm either working, or tired. we'll see, though. I'm at least going to finish the book this year, regardless of how bad it stinks.

My first post! Woooooo! Party time, and all that. So the point of this blog will be for me to monitor my own progress on whatever writing project I'm currently working on. I'm hoping this will somehow help me motivate myself to work harder, and actually complete a novel, or at least a good short story. I have a terrible track record of starting a new story, writing 8-10k words, and then losing interest in favor of something bigger and better.

This year is going to be different, however. I have a new baby on the way, and I am going to complete a novel this year no matter what. New beginnings and whatnot. I don't care anymore whether or not it comes out perfect, or if it is even marketable. I will publish a copy online, get it printed at one of the print to order sites, and set it on my bookshelf and stroke it lovingly for the rest of my life. Just because.

So here's currently what I have going on: a fantasy novel that's slowly chugging along at 19,480 words, a webcomic I haven't I haven't updated in months, and a wiki that's not very full of information. Let's see if I can do something about all this.

Oh, and who's the badass kid with the henna tattoo? That's my six-year-old boy Ian. He's dangerous.
